Carolyn Myers
Hassan Kiawu
Hassan Kiawu is a veteran international broadcaster, media trainer, and strategic communications specialist with over two decades of global experience. He spent nearly 20 years with the BBC World Service for Africa, serving as a senior correspondent and covering major global events including U.S. presidential elections, regional conflicts, public health emergencies, and international sports.
A respected health communication expert, Hassan has led risk communication during the Ebola and COVID-19 responses and worked with the United Nations Development Programme, U.S.–Liberia research programs, and national institutions to strengthen public engagement and media relations. He has trained hundreds of journalists across Liberia and continues to mentor young media professionals through youth and community initiatives.
Hassan currently serves as Deputy Director-General for Media Services at the Liberia Broadcasting System. He holds two master’s degrees—one in Public Administration and another in Health Communication and International Public Relations from Johns Hopkins University—and remains deeply committed to ethical journalism, public service, and community impact.
Esther S. Davis Yango
She is the Executive Director of the Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL). She is a seasoned women’s rights advocate with over a decade of experience in gender analysis, project management, psychosocial support, and community mobilization.
She plays a major role in national advocacy, ensuring women’s voices are heard, their capacities strengthened, and their leadership recognized at local and national levels. Her work focuses on institutional strengthening, policy reform, and promoting women’s participation in decision-making spaces.
Ms. Yango holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Liberia and is an alumna of the SIDA ITP UNSCR 1325 program. She serves on multiple national committees and networks, including the Elections Coordinating Committee, the Rural Renewable Energy Agency, the Liberia Feminist Forum, and the African Women Leaders Network – Liberia Chapter.
